Sentence Structure: Run-Ons

Introduction

Hi grammarians! We have been discussing sentence structure the past few days. Today, we are going to discuss the dreaded run-on!

Have you ever been writing something and then went back to re-read your work... and thought "wow... I wrote a LOT of words and ideas, but I only have ONE period in this whole thing." Oops! You probably had some run-on sentences!

Run-on sentences happen when we have two or more sentences combined together without punctuation or conjunctions.

We have to fix these run-ons when we see them. We can fix them in a few different ways:

1. Put a comma and a conjunction

2. Put a semicolon ;

3. Put a period and capitalize to have two separate sentences.

Introduction

Hey readers! We've been working on creating summaries of nonfiction texts.

Summaries is a retelling of a text, but in our own words. Summaries should never have sentences copied from the original text, but it should have your own words and understanding of the text.
