Day 7 Government: State Government: Judicial
State Government: Judicial
Onward toward the last branch of state government: the Judicial Branch!
Just like the national level of government, the Georgia Judicial Branch is led by the Supreme Court. They are responsible for making sure that bills written and passed in the state are in line with Georgia’s Constitution.
The Georgia Supreme Court is also responsible for making sure that state courts are all doing their best job in line with the law. This is kind of like how a boss makes sure their employees are following the rules of their job.
💡Your tasks today start with reading the last part of the digital poster on the state branches of government. Then, you have a math-related activity to complete. Finally, you have dialogue cards to extend your learning a little further.

You already know that there are 9 justices on a Supreme Court. That is still true at the state level of government. With the link below, you will create a model to show why the number 9 is useful for this!
1️⃣Drag 9 counters over to the middle of the screen to represent the 9 Supreme Court Justices. Choose all the same color counter. (It will be easiest if they are all in a row.)
2️⃣Click on the “flip” button on the right side of the screen. It looks like one of the counters as its turning over.
3️⃣Now click on any number of the counters in the row. This will “flip” them over. Count how many you have of each color.
4️⃣Keep flipping colors over and back to see if you can get an equal number of each color. Is it possible? Why or why not? How does this help Supreme Court Justices when they are making decisions about laws?
