Day 1 Government: Citizens’ Rights and Promoting the Common Good
Citizens’ Rights and Promoting the Common Good
Welcome back to social studies!
We are going to jump right into our government unit by talking about the rights and responsibilities of US citizens. You probably already have an idea of what rights and responsibilities you have as a citizen, like the right to vote or the responsibility to pay taxes. But did you know that you have a duty to follow the laws of the US in order to keep everyone safe?
💡To learn more about these ideas (plus what it means to be a citizen), you have two great resources today. The first is a digital poster that shows you the differences between rights and responsibilities as a citizen. Then you will watch a PBS video that explains these things a little more, as well as discuss the process one must go through to become a citizen if they’re not from the United States. Don’t forget to answer the questions on the discussion board at the end!
