A young person works at their first job, completing paper work.Introduction to the Capstone Project

What is a Capstone Project?

A Capstone Project is an Inquiry-Based Student Interest, multi-step Project-Based Learning, or Real-World Solution Project. This course will have one Capstone project, with several checkpoints. This is not an optional assignment.

In Spanish 4, you will be completing the contents of this project entirely in Spanish. Please be prepared to use Spanish for all aspects of completing your capstone.

During the course of our learning in this semester, we will focus on one major theme:

How can we use our knowledge and skills in the Spanish language to help our careers in the future?

We will work to answer this question as we learn about different career paths in each module of study.

Project Proposal

For the capstone project for Spanish 4, you will select one career or position that would fall under one of the following career paths:

  • El gobierno y la ley
  • Los trabajos con las finanzas
  • Las relaciones internacionales
  • Las ciencias de la computación
  • La ciencia agrícola
  • La arquitectura y la ingeniería
  • Los servicios de la educación primaria
  • La asistencia médica - en la oficina
  • La asistencia médica - proveer atención médica
  • El turismo y la hospitalidad

If you wish to select a career outside of these options, please contact your instructor for approval.

Research and Learning

You will select a career path, then research related positions or job titles. You will present your information IN SPANISH related to the following topics:

  • Education needed for the career path
  • Possibilities for growth in the career 5/10/20 years down the road (how do you “climb the ladder"?)
  • Resumé builder - what can you do OUTSIDE of a job to help build your resumé (what can college students do to prepare for this workforce?)
  • Advantages and disadvantages of the career path, can be professional and/or personal
  • Comparison - how is the career/education/experience different in another country?
  • How can the knowledge of Spanish help me in this career?
  • Final Step: PRESENT

Reminder: you will not be expected to complete all of this at once! We have implemented the checkpoints to allow you to build this project over the entire course. Taking it one step at a time will allow you to build up to your finished product.

Produce a Project to Showcase

You will put your information together for a presentation. You must have a visual representation (slides, video, PDF, infographic, etc.) and an audio recording. You can choose to record your audio with your visual for one file.

Share and Reflect

At the end of the semester, you will post your work on our discussion forum to share your work with your peers. Students will be able to ask questions and provide comments in the discussion forum.

Checkpoints

You will complete checkpoints throughout the course which will help you to get started and stay focused on this long-term project.

At each checkpoint, you will upload your work in progress into the “Capstone Project Checkpoint” submission page.

Each checkpoint does receive a grade, determined by the specific work you are asked to complete at each one. You can ask questions at each checkpoint submission and ask for clarification on your requirements as well.
