Grammar Review: ser vs. estar / por vs. para 

A Review of "ser" and "estar"  

Both verbs mean "to be." We have learned about these verbs from the start of Spanish, but it is important to review our uses of these two verbs. Spanish learners frequently mix up the two verbs.

First, let's review how we conjugate ser and estar.

Should I Use Ser or Estar? chart. For Ser, use the acronym DOCTOR. Use ser if dealing with Date, Occupation, Characteristics, Time, Origin, and Relationship. For Estar, use the acronym PLACE. Use estar if dealing with Position, Location, Action, Condition, and Emotion.
