Oceanography Course Introduction

Introduction

This course is setup around the Georgia Performance Standards.

Course Setup

As you go through each module, it will be divided into five main sections: introduction, instruction, assignments, review, and assessment.

Introduction

Each module will begin with an introductory page that will point out key terms, essential questions, and the specific part of the Georgia Performance Standards that will be addressed. Be sure to note the key terms because you will want to not only know the definitions for these terms but also understand how the term relates to the rest of the content presented.

Instruction

The next pages will be instruction. It will present the content of the module that you are responsible for understanding. This will include text, animations, videos, and other activities including links to outside sites.

Assignments

After the instruction pages, there will always be an assignment page that will list all of the graded work for the module. Sometimes there will be a choice among several assignments. The column on the right side of the page will provide links to handouts and additional information you may need. Be sure to review the syllabus and weekly schedule on the course homepage to familiarize yourself with policies including how the grade is calculated as well as which assignments are due when. Before assignments are due for a module, be sure you have set aside enough time to review the instruction pages.

Some assignments will require you to have basic materials to complete them. Please review this link for the labs and materials list Links to an external site.. If you think you will have issues getting any of these supplies, contact your instructor immediately with the specific assignment name and the supplies you need help getting.

Review

The review page will provide review activities to help you prepare for the module assessment. It is not meant to be an all-inclusive review of every single thing covered in the module. Instead, it addresses some of the major ideas. Before taking the assessment, you should complete the review activities but also review the instruction pages.

Assessment

This page will describe the assessment for the module, such as a test. It will be a single assignment that examines how well you have learned the material in the module.

Now, move on to the next module.
