(FPGS) Forensic Properties of Glass and Soil Module Wrap Up
Module Wrap Up
Summary
Physical evidence is the tangible evidence found in a crime scene. It makes up many objects of evidence, such as glass and soil samples. Glass evidence can be valuable in an investigation; it can be pieced together like a puzzle or compared to other pieces of glass to verify matching characteristics. Glass also may harbor other evidence of forensic significance, such as fingerprints, blood or fibers attached. Soil evidence can help to place a suspect or victim in a specific geographic location or to locate a crime scene when the body has been moved. In addition, soil evidence can generate leads such as with tire tread or shoe impressions. Overall, soil and glass evidence are integral to many investigations and often provide useful information to the investigators.
