Common Insects of Death

While many insects may be found on, in, or near a corpse, some are more significant than others in Forensic Entomology. Various species of flies and beetles are the insects most commonly found in or near corpses and are important indicators in a death investigation. Forensic Entomologists have standards of development for the most common insects found in corpses that they use to determine the "age" of the insects. Finding the age of the insect is an indirect approximation of the post-mortem interval. Review some of the most common insects of death in the interactivity below.
