(CSI) Crime Scene Investigations Module Wrap Up

Module Wrap Up

Module Summary

Crime scene investigations require skilled personnel who understand the importance of meticulous crime scene procedures for securing the crime scene, collecting evidence, proceeding with the investigation within legal bounds, maintaining chain of custody and documenting the crime scene. While many tools assist a crime scene investigator throughout the course of an investigation, it is those protocols and procedures coupled with on the job training and experience that provide consistent, reliable results. A mistake in the collection or preservation of evidence could lead to the evidence being destroyed or inadmissible to court. Destroying a piece of evidence due to negligence or incorrect procedure could result in the loss of valuable case information and leads.
