Thematic Unit: Influences - Novel Wrap-Up Module Overview
Introduction
Students have had practice with writing and grammar skills in the previous units. This unit will serve as a culminating unit for the previous units. In this unit, students will explore the novel, The Giver, in greater detail. Students will write an MLA style paper dealing with an aspect of the novel. So get your keyboards ready... It's paper time!

Key Terms
- Paragraph: a group of sentences that explain a single idea. Should start with a topic sentence and include clear examples, details, and/or explanations.
- Thesis statement: a sentence at the end of the intro paragraph that clearly states the main focus of the essay.
- Introduction: the opening paragraph of an essay
- Conclusion: the closing paragraph of an essay
- MLA Format: the style adopted by the Modern Language Association used to format papers
