Thematic Unit: Influences - Pygmalion: Act IV Lesson
Higgins, Pickering, and Eliza return home from a formal garden party, where Eliza flawlessly played the part of duchess. The men sit and talk around the fireplace. Higgins talks about how glad he is that the whole affair is over. He congratulates Pickering and himself on a job well done. Pickering is also pleased with the great success, although neither of them acknowledges, let alone compliment, Eliza on a job well done. When Pickering goes off to bed, Higgins asks Eliza for his slippers, which is the final straw. She explodes at him in anger for refusing to congratulate her. Higgins is oblivious to any wrongs he could have done, and gets equally angry at Eliza for being ungrateful for his tutoring. Eliza is distraught that Higgins could be so uncaring, cold, and oblivious.
