Thematic Unit: Influences - Introduction Module Overview

Introduction

What influences you? Perhaps family is the strongest influence in your life. For some, the government is the strongest influence. For others, it is the opinion of society that has the strongest influence. For many, religion has a strong impact. As we grow, mature, and get older, we learn what influences really matter to us.  

The Giver is a story about influences. Jonas struggles as he deals with the influences of family, community, and the Giver. The Community of Elders influences others in his community. Jonas struggles to figure out which of these influences are the most important.

In this unit, we will examine the theme of influences. The following three modules (Grammar, Drama, and Writing) will have the theme of "influences" incorporated into the unit. Be prepared to discuss this theme and complete assignments that correlate to influences.
