Thematic Unit: Guilt - Short Stories Module Overview Lesson
Introduction
Short stories are relatively short works of fiction that are meant to
entertain readers. These stories can include mysteries, dramas,
comedies, and even horror stories. In this unit, students will gain
an understanding of the elements that make up short stories and
significant authors of this genre. Students will be on the edge of
their seats while reading in this unit!

- Plot: the series of events that make up the story
- Exposition: the introduction to the story's plot
- Rising action: the events that lead from the exposition to the climax

- Falling action: the events that lead from the climax to the resolution
- Resolution: the end of the story; the wrap-up
- Characterization: the way we learn about characters in a story
- Protagonist: the main character in the story
- Antagonist: the character who opposes the main character
