Now that you have completed the initial assessments for this module, review the lesson material with the following practice activity. 

Review these Key Terms

  • Expository essay: presents information, discusses ideas, or explains a process.
  • Paragraph: a group of sentences that explain a single idea.  Should start with a topic sentence and include clear examples, details, and/or explanations.
  • Thesis statement: a sentence at the end of the intro paragraph that clearly states the main focus of the essay. 
  • Introduction: the opening paragraph of an essay.
  • Conclusion: the closing paragraph of an essay.
  • MLA Format: the style adopted by the Modern Language Association used to format papers.
