Lesson Topic 1: Character and Citizenship

Good citizenship includes leadership, service, cooperation, and obedience. What do you think it means to be a citizen? Do citizens have responsibilities? If so, what are they? A citizen is an inhabitant of a city or town and is entitled to the rights and privileges of that particular area. Citizenship, on the other hand, is the character of an individual viewed as a member of society; behavior in terms of the duties, obligations, and functions of a citizen.

Furthermore, it is also important that citizens have strong character. What does it mean to have character? Having a strong character means that a person stands behind his/her beliefs, takes responsibility for his/her actions, and treats other people with respect and dignity. Character requires people to live with a strong moral and ethical code.
