Lesson Topic 5: Chapters 7-9

An illustration of a child with red hair and light skin reclined on a beanbag. The child wears a longsleeved red top and blue pants. The beanbag is teal. The child holds an open book in their lap as they read.Hopefully, you like the book so far! In the last three chapters, quite a lot has happened. Chapter four focuses on honor and punishment in the family. It is evident that when Mama decides to boycott the Wallace store, there is a direct correlation to the Civil Rights movement in which the author, Mildred Taylor, was actively involved.

Increasingly, the problem faced by the Logan family is racism. Different characters have different reactions to racism. Pay close attention to the way each character responds to the different incidents in the book as you continue reading.

It is now time to read chapters 7-9 of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
