In the first three chapters, you are introduced to Cassie and her three brothers. It is apparent that the Logan children have self-respect regardless of their race. Hopefully, you have discovered the racism that exists in the small town of Spokane County, Mississippi during this time period. The unpunished violence that you read about in chapters 2-3 trouble the black community, and more incidents involving the Logans will occur as you continue reading.
