(WPPE) Lesson Topic 6: Peer Editing

Lesson Topic 6: Peer Editing

In this illustration, students work together on essays as a demonstration of peer editing.Peer editing can be a valuable part of the writing process. It is important for students to actively participate in the revision (adding things, moving things, cutting things, and leaving things alone) and editing (taking care of any problems you have with writing conventions like spelling, punctuation, grammar, and usage) process of their own papers; however, peer revision can also be a great resource to help improve your writing.

When you peer edit, you will do what the teacher does when he/she grades the paper. You will read over the paper. You will make suggestions about how to improve the content. You will correct any grammatical and spelling mistakes that you see. You will comment on the organization of the paper. You will also want to let your classmate know what he/she is doing well on his/her essay.

It is not enough to just read the essay. Peer editing requires you to actively read and to mark on the essay and to provide feedback that will help your classmate improve the essay.
