You will learn about the writing process, science fiction, and how history has impacted literature. Within these major units, you will also study short stories, grammar, nonfiction, poetry, and writing. The major novel we will focus on in this course is the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor. Please locate a copy of this book now, and begin reading in order to get a head start.

  1. MLA Format: The Modern Language Association’s series of regulations and guidelines for writers.
  2. Parenthetical Citations: Also known as in-text citations; they are used to document any external sources used within a piece of writing.
  3. Works Cited Page: A document that includes all of the sources used within a paper; should be formatted in MLA format.
