(TUD) Thematic Unit: Determination - Introduction
Thematic Unit: Determination
Introduction
What is the hardest thing you have ever had to go through? We often face trials and hardships that do not seem possible to move through. Sometimes, our determination exists as the only way to survive a tough situation.
The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis reveals the theme of determination throughout the novel. The Watsons show determination as a family to stick by each other and to help Byron even though they face many problems as an African-American family in a southern town during the 1960s. Despite the difficulties they face, they protect each other and help each other through the most difficult time in their lives.
In this unit, we will examine the theme of determination. The following three modules (Language, Short Stories, and Poetry) will have the theme of determination incorporated into the unit. Be prepared to discuss this theme and complete assignments that correlate to influences.
