Remember when we created a vocabulary flipbook in an earlier module?  We will continue to add to our book with new terminology related to computational thinking and problem solving.

Growing up in the digital age is a very exciting time. New technologies and innovative ideas are introduced constantly. With so much change so frequently, it is important that we ensure that our creations and consumptions are both legal and ethical. As we collaborate to create artifacts, making sure that consumers feel safe and that their information is kept private is really important. Also, we should focus on the functionality and suitability of the products, goods, and services we create.

Lesson Vocabulary

In order to do this, we need an understanding of some key terms. In this lesson, you will show your understanding of the following terms:

  • Privacy: the right to keep personal information unknown
  • Collaborate: to work effectively with others to achieve a goal or desired outcome
  • Artifact: an object or product created by a human
  • Functionality: any or all of the operations performed by a piece of equipment or a software program
  • Suitability: the fact of being acceptable or right for something or someone
  • UI: “User Interface” or “interface” is the means by which a person controls a software application or hardware device
  • UI controls: are element options that affect how a person controls a software application or hardware device
  • Toolbox: A section of the UI that contains all of the commands you can use to write your program.
  • setProperty: sets a property to a new value for the specified element
