BAS: Overview
Computer Basics
Introduction
What does it take for our computer systems to login every day? What’s the difference between storage and memory? In this module, we will learn about the functional components of a computer and basic programming commands. Students will also demonstrate their understanding of the interrelation (how things are connected) of the operating system software, application software, and utility software, citing specific examples of each.
Module Lessons Preview
In this module, we will study the following topics:
Computer Basics: First things first: Let’s explore the basic computer components that create the foundation for our amazing experiences working with computers. In this lesson, students will identify the basic components of the computer.
Key Functional Components: Now that we have learned about the basics, let’s discover how those components function. In this lesson, students will learn about functional components of computers.
Programming Commands: Computer Basics - Check; Key Functional Components - Check. Next up…programming commands. In this lesson, students will demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concepts for how computers process programming commands (hex, binary language, sequence of commands, conditional structures, looping structures)
Interrelated Software: We’ve explored and discovered the bare bones of our computer system. Now we will demonstrate an understanding of how software applications, one system of our key functional components, are interrelated.
