Hardware vs. Software
Hardware
Have you ever thought about the components that make-up a computer? If you are like most, you have not given it a thought. A computer is a collection of hardware designed to run programs using software to accomplish tasks. In this lesson you will learn about hardware and software of a computer. You will also be able to distinguish between hardware and software.
Watch a quick video on Hardware and Software of a Computer.
Take a look at a few important points about the components of hardware and software.
Hardware:
- Hardware is the physical parts of a computer.
- Your CPU speed is measured in Megahertz millions per second(MHz) or Gigahertz billions per second(GHz)
- Memory can be temporarily stored (RAM) or permanently (ROM).
- RAM disappears when the computer shuts down.
- RAM is measured in MB and GB
- CD, DVD, and RW are all forms of storage.
Keep in mind that hardware is great but the software is necessary.
Software
- The set of instructions that make a computer system work is called software.
- Hardware of a computer cannot do anything unless it has instructions that it can follow that make it work.
Now let's learn more about the Types of Software.
Now it is time for a Self-Assessment.
