What is your favorite computer game? Have you ever wondered how the game was designed? If so, you may be interested in pursuing a career in information technology.
In this lesson you will discover what courses, degrees, and certifications would benefit you and equip you for a career in information technology.
What is a career? A career is a lifelong pursuit of an occupation that often requires specialized knowledge and training. A career is a string of work completed over a period of time. Each piece of work can be considered a job. Therefore, you could say that a career is a collection of jobs performed over time. With a career, there is usually an opportunity for progress and increases in salary.
What exactly is Information Technology? Information Technology relates to the design, development, support and management of hardware, software, multimedia and systems integration services.
When should you start planning for your future? It is never too early to start planning your future!
Information Technology Career Cluster
Most jobs today require the use of computers. Because of that fact, there is a need for computer professionals to ensure that the computers used in business and industry operate properly. A computer professional may design, configure, analyze, test, or secure computer hardware and software.
The Information Technology career cluster educates students with learning opportunities in the creation, utilization, and modification of technology.
Plans of study in this cluster include:
- web and digital design,
- programming,
- computer science,
- information support and services,
- networking, and
- health information technology.
By pursuing one of the career pathway options in the Information Technology cluster, you will discover how to investigate the fundamental theories of how computers are used to solve problems. You will also learn how to write application programs, gain an understanding of how system software can be utilized, and discover how to create programs using programming languages. In addition to learning the fundamental theories, you will have an opportunity to experience hands-on coursework with hardware, networks, web pages, multimedia, and security.
