Introduction

Communication, both written and oral, is paramount in the employability skills marketplace. We will look at this concept in more depth.

Of the employability skills required by business and industry, employers see communication skills as one of the most important skills. Employers expect new employees to be able to communicate effectively through writing, speaking, listening, reading, and interpersonal abilities. In this module, we will focus specifically on communication skills.

Communication is “the process of creating and exchanging meaning through symbolic interaction.” Communication can be verbal through spoken or written form, or it can be nonverbal through a person’s actions, gestures, or body language. Communication skills are important to you now in your school and social contexts and will continue to grow in importance in your adult and professional life.
