Greek and Roman Mythology Word Cloud

Overview

Greek Mythology dates back to ancient Greece and is what the people of that time period used to explain the origins of their culture and being. The stories of their gods and goddesses also served as entertainment for the population. Remember Odysseus, who fought in the Trojan War and spent years trying to return to Penelope? Perhaps the legends of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Cyclops, and Athena ring a bell. Ancient Greece used these myths and tales as its foundation to bind its people together.

Roman mythology also influenced the world. As noted in the previous unit, Roman mythology can be found in names of the planets, days of the week, and months of the year. Perhaps the story of Romulus and Remus is familiar - twins who were raised by a she-wolf, or the story of Pyramus and Thisbe - a cornerstone of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Keep reading to learn more about this culture and its mythological footprint.
