Image: an illustration depicting the death of ThisbePyramus and Thisbe, Part 4

It is now time to finish reading Pyramus and Thisbe, in Latin. We will be breaking down the poem into four sections. For each section, there will be a brief introduction and a handout. Please take care to complete each handout fully before moving forward in the course.

Part 4 - The Conclusion of the Tale

Unlike the other sections, this section will not have a preview. You will be working on forming a complete translation of the last section, though most of the translation will be done using a style called Cloze Translation (the translation is partially completed, with you filling the blanks to finish the meaning). Remember to contemplate carefully the transformation(s) that Ovid highlights and think seriously about what point Ovid was trying to make with this story. Painting: Pyramus and Thisbe by Lucas van Leyden, 1514.
