Using Scratch to Self-Document

Adding comments when programming allows the programmer to identify himself/herself and date when code was added. It is also useful in making code maintenance easier, discovering bugs quicker, and permits programmers to reference sections coded when paired programming occurs.

Scratch displays comments as adjustable textboxes that can be attached to blocks or left floating.  The images below provide visual instructions on adding comments.

To create a comment in Scratch, right-slick on the block and select Add Comment.

To create a floating textbox, right click in the Code area and click on Add Comment and type your comment.

The comment textbox can be minimized by clicking on the down arrow in the upper right corner.

The size of the comment textbox can be adjusted by clicking the triangle at the lower right corner of the comment.
