EFT - Nanotechnology Lesson
Nanotechnology
Computer devices today are much smaller than those of previous generations. You probably use your Apple or Android device more than your desktop computer or laptop to email and/or text a message, listen to music, and surf the World Wide Web. Today, users desire a computer device that has more processing power and more storage space. Nanotechnology will play a major role in the design of future computer devices as scientists look into the miniaturization of microprocessors.
Nanotechnology has played a role in other areas as well. In the healthcare field, the Verichip is used to provide medical information using radio frequency identification technology (RFID). The chip is inserted in a patient's arm and stores a code that releases the patient's information. Though there are many pros for using the chip, there are ethical concerns and questions about confidentiality. Click on the buttons in the learning object below to discover additional information about the use of nanotechnology.
- Verichip - a computer chip, the size of a grain of rice, which can be implanted in a patient's arm to provide information about an individual's medial history.
