Once you have chosen a career, you will need to do some research about the career. In this project you will research your chosen career and create a presentation about the career. There are many places to research a career, but the Occupational Outlook Handbook is one of the best places to search. This handbook is created and updated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and is kept up to date on pay scales, education required, number of jobs available, and other important information. You can use other sources as well, but most of your statistics should come from the BLS/OOH - https://www.bls.gov/ooh/ Links to an external site..
Your presentation must follow presentation guidelines:
- 7x7 rule
- No more than 2 fonts in the presentation
- Appropriate pictures that illustrate the point of the slide
- No more than 3 colors throughout the presentation
- Headings no smaller than 30 font size
- Content no smaller than 24 font size
- Easy to read font – such as Arial or Calibri
- Contrast font and background (no red on blue or blue on red; dark font on a light background or light font on a dark background)
- Citations for information and pictures
Use the information gathered from the Interest Inventory and Goal Setting Project to guide you in this project.
Deliverables for your presentation:
- Name of the career
- Education necessary (level of education, i.e... Certificate, Technical College Diploma, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, Law Degree, Doctorate Degree) and the major(s) needed. For example: Bachelor of Business Administration – Computer Information Systems
- Top schools for this major (2 top schools for this major and 1 school you would attend that has this major): make sure the school you choose has the major, not all schools do.
- Certifications necessary or recommended (Example: CompTIA) and cost.
- Helpful activities/education in high school - (Example: AP Computer Science, Calculus, etc., FBLA, TSA)
- Details of the career
- Typical job duties
- Salary range at different levels of the career (Entry-level, Mid-Career, Late Career)
- Benefits (Medical Insurance, Life Insurance, Dental Insurance, Retirement Plans, etc.)
- Work environment (office, traveling, outside, moving around, staying at your desk most of the day, etc.)
- Future of the career (Outlook – growth over the next 5-10 years)
- Career path (what job do you start at, what types of promotions could you have, what is the top level)
- Interesting things about the career
- Where could you get a job with this career? Location and companies (Look up jobs on job sites such as Indeed or Monster)
- Map out your career path (What would your entry-level job be? What promotions would you pursue? What would your ultimate goal be?)
You need at least one slide on each section. Be very thorough, as if you are teaching someone about this career.
