Select the correct declension
Select the correct noun base:
Obtaining Noun Base
To obtain the noun base, for any declension, simply take the genitive form (listed second in the dictionary) and remove the genitive ending. Example:
- puella, puellae, f. - girl.
- puellae - ae = puell- (noun base)
Practice Declining
On a separate piece of paper (or in a digital document), practice declining (writing out all the case forms) the following nouns. The first includes an example declension (in the order nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, ablative, with singular first and plural second):
- res, rei, f. - thing, matter
- res, rei, rei, rem, re, res, rerum, rebus, res, rebus
- situs, situs, m. - situation, position, site
- genu, genus, n. - knee
- spes, spei, f. - hope
- dies, diei, m. - day
