Capstone Project - Select Topic and Provide Reasons
A Capstone Project is an Inquiry-Based Student Interest, multi-step Project-Based Learning, or Real-World Solution Project. This course will have one Capstone project, with several checkpoints.
Capstone Project Concept Review
The theme of this capstone project is Passion. A good first question to ask when seeking a topic for your project is: why did you decide to take Latin in the first place? Was it popular culture (movies or books with mythological themes)? Was it a desire to more deeply explore a mysterious ancient language? Are you fascinated by the history of the ancient world, seeking to understand how people "used to do things"?
The answer to that one question should guide you to a topic that will produce the best results. Examples can include (but aren’t limited to) –
- The Latin language - information about the language itself!
- Roman mythology
- Greek mythology
- Ancient history (Rome)
- Ancient politics (Rome)
- Ancient geography (Mediterranean)
Eventually, you will create a masterwork to showcase your passion. It can be:
- a podcast
- a TED talk
- an essay with multimedia attachments
- a gallery
- a lesson plan, including a video of you teaching the lesson
- something else extra creative
Your Capstone will also require research.
Submission
All of this is to show that you are going to work on this one topic quite a lot this semester, and you don't want to get tired of it too early. For now, you need to submit what you are passionate about and a paragraph explaining why. If you cannot write a paragraph about why you like it, you probably aren’t as passionate about it as you think. Additionally, after your paragraph, you need to list a few related topics you might like to investigate. These aren't going to be "set in stone" yet but it might encourage you to research extra or ask your teacher extra questions.
To review:
-
Create a Word document (you will re-use this document, so save it somewhere easy to access!)
- Name your passion
- Write a paragraph explaining why you are passionate
- Include a few related topics that you might want to investigate more deeply
-
Submit the Word document
- Submission should be either .docx or .pdf
- Do not submit a weblink. Do not submit any other format.
