Introduction 

In this module, we will learn something about birthdays （生日shēng rì）. If you want to ask when is someone's birthday, you may say"你的生日是几月几号？ Nǐ de shēng rì shì jǐ yuè jǐ hào？" Birthday is a good topic in China. Sometimes a conversation about one's birthday also goes with the Chinese zodiacs. In China, there are 12 traditional zodiac signs which are embodied by 12 animals.  In this module, you will learn how to tell a date and place. To inquire about one's position over the phone, you could say:  "你现在在哪儿？ Nǐ xiàn zài zài nǎ er？" which means "Where are you now?"

Essential Questions

• How do you ask and tell the date?
• How do you ask and tell the day of the week?
• How do you decline to do something at someone's request?
• How do you express that something is a coincidence?
• How do you ask and tell the place where something is located?

If you want to ask and tell the date, you can say "今天是几月几号Jīn tiān shì jǐ yuè jǐ hào?" and ".今天是二月二十号。Jīn tiān shì èr yuè èr shí hào". While asking the day of the week, you could use "Jīn tiān shì xīng qī jǐ ? 今天是星期几? and the answer could be" Jīn tiān shì xīng qī wǔ.今天是星期五." When you have to decline someone's request, you can say "Bù hǎo yì si ,wǒ zuì jìn méi shí jiān.不好意思,我最近没时间." If you are looking for something, such as No.3 file, you may ask "sān hào wén jiàn zài nǎr? 3号文件在哪儿？", and the answer could be "zài zhūo zi shàng miàn de wén jiàn jiā lǐ..在桌子上面的文件夹里。"
