Nationalities and Occupations Review
Now that you have completed the initial assessments for this module, review the lesson material with the practice activities and extra resources.
To ask someone about his nationality, you can say"Nǐ shì nǎ guó rén? 你是哪国人?", or "Qǐng wèn ,nín shì nǎ guó rén请问,您是哪国人?", which is a more polite way. The proper response is "我是美国人wǒ shì měi guó rén" or "我是中国人wǒ shì zhōng guó rén。" . You could also say "你呢?, which is short for "你是哪国人? to ask "what about you?"/"what is your nationality?".
In order to build the relationship, you'd better know the occupation of certain people, in this occasion you may ask"Qǐng wèn ,nǐ zuò shí me gōng zuò请问,您做什么工作?". It is a very common way to ask someone's job, which means "What is your job?". The answers can be "Wǒ shì yì míng yī shēng /jì zhě /lǎo shī 。我是一名医生/老师。", in which "míng(名)"is a formal measure word for people.
To show your interest in something you could say "Wǒ xǐ huān……我喜欢……".
If you are not so familiar with these sayings and words/sentences, you can repeat them several times from the content area until you feel very comfortable and confident. Remember, you need to understand both pinyin (pronunciations) and appropriate Chinese expressions in Chinese characters. Thank you for your hard work in this course.
