Tips for Success on Multiple Choice Questions

It is important that you are properly prepared when you walk in to take the AP exam. In addition to your completing and reviewing your coursework, these are some helpful tips:

• Remember the time limit - The exam is timed as mentioned in the previous lesson. For the multiple choice you will have slightly less than two minutes per question. Some questions will take longer some will take less. If you find yourself spending too much time on an problem, skip it and come back.
• Memorize your equations - Even though you are given an equation sheet for the exam, having your equations memorized can aid in quickly identifying relationships in the problem. Like using your notes or book on a test, you can waste a lot of time staring at the equation sheet trying to find the correct relationship to use.
• Don't have to use your calculator for every math problem - By using estimation math (rounding numbers to easy to work with values) you can often quickly eliminate answers, possibly down to the correct one.
• Read carefully - Read each question carefully. It may sound like a question you've seen in this class or a practice exam, but changing just one word can mean the answer is down a completely different path.
• If you don't know, guess - There is no penalty for incorrect answers. If you have several problems left towards the end of the time limit, use your best guess so you don't leave any questions blank.
