INT: Cultural Moment Lesson 02 - Schuhplattler

Schuhplattler

Schuhplattler refers to a type of traditional German dance in which the dancers slap their thighs, calves and feet in a particular pattern. Below are two different examples of Schuhplattlers. What about you - do you have any dances that are specific to your cultural traditions? What dances that you do now do you think will become a part of our modern culture?

Traditional Schuhplattler

Watch this video over the more traditional version of this dance.

Holzhacker

Holzhacker means lumberjack. This form of Schuhplattler involves a prop in the video below - why do you think this prop was included for this version of the dance? Also note: Tiroler refers to the Tirol region of Austria (also sometimes spelled Tyrol).
