What kind of pet do you have? How would you describe your pet to someone else? What is your favorite animal? What animal would you like to have for a pet and why? The animal kingdom is a fascinating realm full of amazing diversity and incredible animals. In this unit, you will begin to be able to identify major types of animals and pets in German. You will be able to describe these animals to other people and express your thoughts on them. You will also learn how to express possession in German using the genitive case and the German verb gehören.

- How would you describe an animal to someone else?
- How do I express what types of pets I have or want?
- What is the genitive case and how is it used to show possession?
- How do I conjugate the verb gehören and how do I use it to show possession?
Goal Statement
You will begin by learning the key terms in German to be able to identify key wild animals, domestic animals, aquatic animals and insects. You will learn how to describe any animal in terms of both its physical features and its nature. You will learn how to use the genitive case to show possession and be able to recognize it when you see it. You will also learn how to show possession in German by using the verb gehören. Finally, you will be able to describe your own pet and be able to express what type of animal you would most want as a pet and why.
