Environmental Health

Welcome to, “Environmental Health.” We will look at how to protect yourself and how you can help protect our environment. Many human actions, such as improper disposal of wastes, can pollute both land and water. Other human actions such as conservation can help protect the environment.

Six Pollutants

THE EPA LIMITS LEVELS OF 6 POLLUTANTS
1.	Ozone (02) - forms at the ground level and is a part of smog.
2.	Particulate material (pm) - general term for small particles in the air, such as dust, soil, soot, smoke, mold, and droplets of liquid.
3.	Carbon monoxide (co) - colorless, odorless gas that forms when carbon in fuel is not burned completely.
4.	Sulfur dioxide (so2)- chiefly from power plants, especially those that burn coal.
5.	Nitrogen oxides (nox) - highly reactive gases that form when fuel is burned at high temperatures, as in automobiles.
6.	Lead-metal found naturally in the environment as well as in manufactured goods.
