DAR - Imperatives (Lesson)
Imperatives
Imperatives or commands tell the addressee to do something.
Examples of imperative sentences in English are:
- Go to your room!
- Sit down and eat!
- Clean that up!
The command in ASL includes:
- Possible frowning.
- Absence of the subject.
- Direct eye gaze at addressee. (The subject is indicated through eye contact.)
- Sharp, tense movement of the verb or a slow, deliberate movement of the verb to show even more emphasis.
- Sometimes a sentence can be signed with just the verb.
- Examples: GO, SIT DOWN, or FINISH (Stop That!)
