Deaf-Related Organizations
There are dozens of state, national, and non-profit organizations that advocate for and/or serve people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Below is some information about some of the more popular organizations.
World Federation of the Deaf Links to an external site. (WFD)
International non-governmental organization representing approximately 70 million Deaf people worldwide.
Uses special, legal or administrative measures to ensure that Deaf people in every country have the right to preserve their own sign languages, organizations, and cultural and other activities.
National Association of the Deaf Links to an external site. (NAD)
The nation's premier civil rights organization of, by, and for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the United States of America.
National Black Deaf Advocates Links to an external site. (NBDA)
Official voice of Black deaf and hard of hearing Americans.
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Links to an external site. (RID)
National organization for sign language interpreters. They oversee the following:
- Certification
- Professional Development
- Ethics

Organization for trilingual interpreters (English, Spanish, ASL).
Georgia Center of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Links to an external site.
To serve individuals in the state of Georgia who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Late-deafened, people with hearing loss, and others with respect to all communication modes; by providing support services, advocacy, and education, which foster self-determination, empowerment, and independence.
