Series of Three Project Directions

For your own series of three, you will create three artworks that explore the ideation journal that you created for Module 9: Finding Inspiration. Since you have mapped out an idea, you can use that work from module 9, or start a new ideation process.

Planning

You will need to plan out your 3 artworks. A good plan includes compositional thumbnails and design ideas. You will also need to consider your media and make sure that it gives your work the meaning necessary to realize your concept.

Paper for the Project

Use three pieces of journal paper, 9x12 (a good idea is to work on these outside of your journal, especially if you need to dry the work). If you want larger paper, evaluate what you have left in the supply kit, or at your home.

Media

Since this is a student-led project, you get to select your own media for the three artworks; but since this is a series, the work should be the same media or a variation on the media.

Project Check-Ins

There will be two project check-ins for this project since you will be working on your own. Make sure you plan your time for this project. Don't leave this until the last minute to complete your three pieces.

  • Series Check-In #1: Either one is fully complete, or work has begun on all three.
  • Series Check-In #2:  Either a second work is fully complete, or all three works are in mid-state.

Grading

Each artwork will be graded independently on technique, composition, meaning, and craftsmanship. You will also be given a grade for creating a series of three and demonstrating that you have created a true series.
