Capstone Project: Complete the Project
A Capstone Project is an Inquiry-Based Student Interest, multi-step Project-Based Learning, or Real-World Solution Project. This course will have one Capstone project, with several checkpoints. The final product will be due at least two weeks before the end of the course and is a graded assignment. This is not an optional assignment.
Capstone Project: Reminder - What's the Goal?
You will create a PowerPoint presentation to promote interest in travel to an assigned Spanish-speaking country. The topics and themes students will write about promoting their country are included in each of the slide instructions.
The class goal is for students to be familiarized with all the Spanish-speaking countries of the world; your goal is to explore your assigned country to publicize it and educate your classmates who are possible client travelers to your country.
Project Completion: Instructions
Prepare your assignment at least 48 hours prior to submission date so you have plenty of time to reach out to your teacher and ask any questions you may have.
Open your Capstone project PowerPoint. You will be finishing your presentation now by completing the last two content slides and the bibliography slide. When you are done, you should have a total of 10 slides containing content along with a title slide and a bibliography (12 total slides).
Please complete the following to finish the content for your presentation:
Content Slide 9: Los Músicos famosos del país (Country’s famous musicians and/or singers)
Los Músicos famosos del país (Country’s famous musicians and/or singers): Hispanic singers and songwriters have made significant contributions to the music industry. Does your country have any famous musicians or singers. List at least one and tell me about him/her. Include images to support your script. Write at least five complete sentences minimum using vocabulary and grammar from GAVS level of courses you have taken thus far. Keep in mind the GAVS Academic Honesty Statement.
- ¿Quién es el cantante famoso?
- ¿Cómo se llama?
- ¿Por qué es famoso?
- Include at least four sentences about the person.
- ¿Quién es, por qué es importante en el país, etc.
- Incluye al menos cuatro oraciones (sentences) sobre la persona.
Incluye imagen(es).
Content Slide 10: Ir de compras (Shopping)
Ir de compras (Shopping):
- What are some recommended places in your country to go shopping?
- Are there Malls (Centros Comerciales) or local markets?
- What is the typical traditional dress for the locals in your country?
- What kind of clothing should tourists bring in their luggage when they come to your country?
- What is a typical clothing style or design of the locals of your country?
- Are there any ¡Rebajas! (sales, markdowns) at the shopping centers or are the prices pretty stable based on your investigation?
- Where can tourists find amazing deals on clothing or souvenirs?
Focus and any of the suggested topics to develop your slide. Refer to the content on shopping in the La Ropa Module. Include images to support your script. Write at least five complete sentences in Spanish (minimum) using vocabulary and grammar from GAVS level of courses you have taken thus far. Keep in mind the GAVS Academic Honesty Statement.
Final Slide: Bibliografía (Bibliography)
Cite your sources. No specific format is required, just the sources you investigated to get your information. If you used a website, include the link.
Note: at this point, you should have a minimum of 12 slides:
- One Title Slide
- Ten Content Slides
- One bibliography slide
Add Audio
You will need to record your presentation. You must read all ten content slides (slides 2–11) and record yourself. You do not need to record audio for the Title Slide or the Bibliography. The purpose of this recording is to help you practice pronunciation. It is okay to struggle (a little) with the sounds of the words. You are still learning and getting better each day. You are doing ¡un trabajo fantástico!
Submission Options
At this point, you have the ability to make a few decisions on how you would like to create your final submission. To properly complete this project, you must include both a spoken component and your completed PowerPoint presentation. There are various ways to achieve this goal:
- Create a video using a screencast tool. With a screencast, you can capture both your presentation and narration in a single video. There are several free tools for creating a screencast, and Canvas even has a built-in tool through Canvas Studio.
- Other video presentations:
- Documentary style - video of images with narration
- Newscast style - provide a detailed description of the selected topic with visuals
- An audio presentation:
- Create a podcast (or other audio presentation) about your selected topic.
- Visuals will need to be submitted separately.
