Capstone Project: Los deportes, mercadillos y personas famosas
A Capstone Project is an Inquiry-Based Student Interest, multi-step Project-Based Learning, or Real-World Solution Project. This course will have one Capstone project, with several checkpoints. The final product will be due at least two weeks before the end of the course and is a graded assignment. This is not an optional assignment.
Capstone Project: Reminder - What's the Goal?
You will create a PowerPoint presentation to promote interest in travel to an assigned Spanish-speaking country. The topics and themes students will write about promoting their country are included in each of the slide instructions.
The class goal is for students to be familiarized with all the Spanish-speaking countries of the world; your goal is to explore your assigned country to publicize it and educate your classmates who are possible client travelers to your country.
Capstone Project: Checkpoint 3 Instructions
Important note: if you need extra slides to share the required contents for checkpoint 3, you may add as many slides as necessary. Additionally, update your Title Slide to indicate that this is checkpoint 3.
Reminder: You should be updating your Bibliography slide citing your sources as you go. No specific format is required, just the sources you investigated to get your information. If you used a website, include the link!

Content Slide 6: Los Deportes (Sports)
Los Deportes (Sports): Describe three types of sports and/or recreation activities enjoyed by the local people of this country. Mention any sport heroes of the country. How you arrange this slide will be up to each individual student. Include images to support your script. Write at least five complete sentences minimum using vocabulary and grammar from GAVS level of courses you have taken thus far. Keep in mind the GAVS Academic Honesty Statement.
Use the following questions to guide your research:
- Describa tres tipos de deportes y/o actividades que disfruta la gente de este país.
- ¿Cuáles deportes son los más populares?
- ¿Cuáles actividades son populares?
- ¿Hay héroes de deportes en el país?
- ¿Quiénes son y cómo son?

Content Slide 7: Mercadillos (Colorful Markets)
Mercadillos (Colorful Markets): As a traveler, you will have the opportunity to visit local markets for handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Bargain with vendors and discover hidden gems. Find one of these markets in your country and tell me about what you can buy, etc. Include images to support your script. Write at least five complete sentences minimum using vocabulary and grammar from GAVS level of courses you have taken thus far. Keep in mind the GAVS Academic Honesty Statement.
Use the following questions to guide your research:
- ¿Cómo se llama el mercadillo?
- ¿Cómo es (descríbelo)?
- ¿Qué venden en el mercadillo?
- ¿Cuánto cuesta?
- ¿Cuándo abren y cuándo cierran el mercado?
- ¿Se puede pagar con tarjeta o efectivo? Etc.
Content Slide 8: Persona(s) Famosa(s) (Famous persons/people)
Persona(s) Famosa(s) (Famous person/people): Select at least one famous person from that country. This could be an author, an artist, a famous historical person, etc. Who is he/she, why is he/she important, etc. Include images to support your script. Write at least five complete sentences minimum using vocabulary and grammar from GAVS level of courses you have taken thus far. Keep in mind the GAVS Academic Honesty Statement.
Use the following questions/prompts to guide your research:
- Identifica un personaje famoso de este país.
- Puede ser un autor, un músico, un artista (pintor), un personaje histórico famoso (Simón Bolívar), etc.
- ¿Quién es, por qué es importante en el país, etc.
- Incluye al menos cinco oraciones (complete sentences) sobre la persona.

Now, save your PowerPoint on your computer and submit according to the due date. Make sure to save your document. You will continue to work on this presentation.
Remember that this is an ongoing project. For each checkpoint, you will be adding new information to your project. So, at this point, you should have a minimum of 10 slides in total for the project:
- One Title Slide (updated for this checkpoint)
- Eight Content Slides (three new slides for this checkpoint)
- One bibliography slide (update this regularly as you create your capstone)
Go back through the instructions on this page to ensure you have completed all the necessary components. Do not submit this assignment unless you have completed at least 10 slides, including three new content slides for this checkpoint.
