Capstone Project: Inmersión de la cultura y gastronomía-comida

A Capstone Project is an Inquiry-Based Student Interest, multi-step Project-Based Learning, or Real-World Solution Project. This course will have one Capstone project, with several checkpoints. The final product will be due at least two weeks before the end of the course and is a graded assignment. This is not an optional assignment.

Capstone Project: Reminder - What's the Goal?

You will create a PowerPoint presentation to promote interest in travel to an assigned Spanish-speaking country. The topics and themes students will write about promoting their country are included in each of the slide instructions.

The class goal is for students to be familiarized with all the Spanish-speaking countries of the world; your goal is to explore your assigned country to publicize it and educate your classmates who are possible client travelers to your country.

Note: Spanish IIA students - this is the final checkpoint for this term. You will need to save your work for the next term (IIB) as this project will carry over. Be sure that you save your PowerPoint presentation in a place where you can easily access it for your next term!

Spanish IIAB - we will complete the entire project this semester, so continue saving your work as you have previously.

Capstone Project: Checkpoint 2 Instructions

Important note: if you need extra slides to share the required contents for checkpoint 2, you may add as many slides as necessary. Additionally, update your Title Slide to indicate that this is checkpoint 2.

Reminder: You should be updating your Bibliography slide citing your sources as you go. No specific format is required, just the sources you investigated to get your information. If you used a website, include the link!

Please complete the following and then submit:

Title Slide

Update the title slide:

  • Spanish llAB Capstone Project, Checkpoint 2
  • Your full name, name of your course, semester

Content slide 4:

Select either one of the suggestions or both and complete slide 4. Include images to support your script. Write at least five complete sentences minimum using vocabulary and grammar from GAVS level of courses you have taken thus far. Keep in mind the GAVS Academic Honesty Statement.

  • Inmersión de la cultura (Cultural Immersion) Travelers can immerse themselves in the local culture, traditions, and customs by attending festivals, exploring historical sites, and interacting with friendly locals. Provided a description of a holiday or festival celebrated in your country. ¿Cuáles son los días festivos? ¿Por qué celebran la fiesta? ¿Es una fiesta religiosa o civil? ¿Se celebra por todo el país? Remember to include images that support your script.
  • Etiqueta cultural (Cultural Etiquette): Mention some “good manners” that the tourist should keep in mind while visiting. Examples: Keep your hands visible at all times and keep your elbows off the table. Avoid checking your phone during the meal. Place your knife and fork parallel to each other on your plate once you have finished eating. Take small portions of food and do not leave piles to waste. There are many more…! Research. Remember to include images that support your script. Días festivos/festivales: una descripción de un día festivo o festival celebrado en su país.

Content Slide 5:

  • Gastronomía-comida (Gastronomy): Indulge in delicious regional dishes! Try paella in Spain, ceviche in Peru, or tacos in Mexico. Exploring food markets and trying regional dishes is a delightful experience. Food: Share a minimum of 5 different foods that are typically eaten in your destination (country); provide one sentence describing each food and an image of each. What are some main dishes offered in your country? What are some desserts? What are some local beverages? Which is more popular, going out to eat or eating at home? What is the name of a popular restaurant and where is it located? What is a typical menu like at the restaurant? What is the country’s national dish, and when is it mostly (typically) served? You have a plethora of choices here. It is up to you as to how you design this slide. Remember keep it simple: Hay…. Me gusta… A los turistas les encanta(n) etc. Include images to support your script. Write at least five complete sentences minimum using vocabulary and grammar from GAVS level of courses you have taken thus far. Keep in mind the GAVS Academic Honesty Statement.

Submission

Now, save your PowerPoint on your computer and submit according to the due date. Make sure to save your document. You will continue to work on this presentation.

Remember that this is an ongoing project. For each checkpoint, you will be adding new information to your project. So, at this point, you should have a minimum of 7 slides in total for the project:

  • One Title Slide (updated for this checkpoint)
  • Five Content Slides (two new slides for this checkpoint)
  • One bibliography slide (update this regularly as you create your capstone)

Go back through the instructions on this page to ensure you have completed all the necessary components. Do not submit this assignment unless you have completed at least seven slides, including two new slides for this checkpoint.
