El arroz en Colombia: According to Alan Davidson in the "Oxford companion to food" ("El compañero de la comida" de la universidad de Oxford), Colombia is the only Latin American country where rice is more important than corn. There is an old saying in Colombia that explains the importance of rice on the table: Un almuerzo sin arroz, es un desayuno (A lunch without rice is a breakfast). Spanish conquerors imported this cereal to America in the XVI century.
Platos Colombianos
Weekends in Spanish-speaking countries are very family-oriented. In Colombia families start their Sunday morning eating tamales at home that can be purchased in the street from street venders. You can hear them shout: "Tamales!!!! Calientes los tamales!!" After breakfast families begin cooking together delicious meals like ajiaco con pollo, arroz atollado, bagre en salsa o frito, bandeja paisa, carne a la llanera o mamona. These are only a few of the many delicious meals you can try in the different regions of Colombia.
