  • Who were the Italian Humanists and what was their philosophy?
  • Main characteristics and values of the Italian Renaissance.
  • Characteristics of Italian city-state politics and diplomacy.
  • Factors which contributed to the rise of the Renaissance movement in Italy.
  • Which city-state was in the forefront of the Renaissance artistic and literary movement?
  • According to Machiavelli, what are the characteristics of a good Prince?  A good government?
  • What was Thomas More's attitude toward society as depicted in Utopia?
  • What were the values of the Northern Humanists (particularly toward the nature of man)?
  • What was the philosophy of Erasmus?  How did he believe reform could best be accomplished?
  • What were the characteristics of the Northern Renaissance society?
  • What was the role of Renaissance women?
  • How were the Italian and Northern Renaissance alike?  How were they different?  Think in terms of social, political, and economic characteristics and values.
