PED - AP Score Calculation Lesson

AP Score Calculation

In this lesson, we will examine how your AP tests will be scored. College Board has recently made a few changes in scoring.

Section One

In the multiple-choice section, there will be approximately 45-55 questions which you will have 60 minutes to answer. The multiple-choice section accounts for 45% of your total test score. One important change in scoring is that you will not be penalized for wrong answers. You are only given credit for questions answered correctly. So what does this mean? GUESS (educated ones of course) and DO NOT LEAVE ANY QUESTION BLANK!

Section Two

In the essay portion of the test, you will have three essay prompts consisting of three types--passage analysis, argument, and synthesis--in which you will have two hours to respond (roughly 40 minutes per essay). The essays will be scored on a scale of zero to six. Click here to view a rubric for these essays. Links to an external site. The essay portion counts for 55% of the total score. The final score will be a total of both sections and will be converted to a scale of one to five. Scores earning a three and higher may be eligible for college credit.
