IAP - The Writing Process Lesson
The Writing Process
In this module, we will produce an autobiography that will follow the steps of the writing process. The discussion about your life is an example of the prewriting process. Prewriting is often called brainstorming. Any genre or type of writing will always benefit from following a process that begins with simple ideas that are crafted into a final project. The following video explores all the aspects of the writing process; be sure to take notes on the specific requirements of each stage of the writing process.
Autobiography Project
Begin work on your project and complete the Third Person Autobiography.
The purpose of this assignment is twofold. First, you have an easy topic to write about: you. Write an autobiography that covers some of the following topics:
- Past
- Present
- Future
- Family
- Friends
- Philosophy
Be creative. Use the Essay Brainstorming Diagram to generate further ideas for your biography. Click here to view and download the Essay Brainstorming Diagram Links to an external site..
Next, compose your autobiography in the third person. This means that instead of first-person pronouns (I, me, my, etc.) you will use third person (he, she, or your name). This activity requires a different perspective and will make your writing seem more objective.
As noted in the video, the quality of a piece of writing or any presentation depends on a thorough process. Your productions will benefit from the attention to detail that includes brainstorming, outlining, composing, revising, proofreading, editing, and publishing. Consider these steps as you produce the Third Person Autobiography.
