Particle Practice

Particles are key elements of Japanese grammar.  Fill in the correct particles and complete the practice activity below in order check your answers. Email the instructor if you have any questions.

Review the following particles and their functions:

  • Lesson 49:
    • に: indicating the time or occasion when an action or process occurs
      • Example: 先しゅうの日曜日生まれました。
      • Translation: He was born last Sunday.
  • Lesson 49, 52
    • : indicating the place where an action occurs
      • Example: カナ生まれました。
      • Translation: I was born in Canada.
      • Example: にほんのかいしゃはたらいています。
      • Translation: I work in a Japanese company.
  • Lesson 50
    • に: indicating where something or someone exists (with すんでいる)
      • Example: 今日本すんでいます。
      • Translation: I live in Japan now.
    • の: indicating the modification of the noun that follows it by the noun that precedes it
      • Example: 子どもときイギリスにすんでいました。
      • Translation: I lived in England when I was child.
  • Lesson 51
    • で: indicating an exclusive agent (with 一人) 
      • Example: 今一人すんでいます。
      • Translation: I live alone now.
  • Lesson 54
    • に: indicating the time or occasion when an action takes place (with
      • Example: 二年ごけっこんします。
      • Translation: I will get married in two years.
    • を: indicating a place from which someone leaves (with そつぎょうする)  
      • Example: 今年中学校そつぎょうします。(今年 = ことし)
      • Translation: I will graduate from middle school this year.
  • Lesson 55
    • に: indicating the result of a course of events, a change (with なる)
      • Example: しょう来いしゃなります。
      • Translation: I will become a doctor in the future.
