Particle Practice
Particles are key elements of Japanese grammar. Fill in the correct particles and complete the practice activity below in order check your answers. Email the instructor if you have any questions.
Review the following particles and their functions:
- Lessons 42-44:
- が: indicating the subject of a sentence
- Example: あたまがいたいんです。
- Translation: My head hurts.
- Example: ねつがあるんです。
- Translation: I have a fever. (lit. A fever exists.)
- Example: かみがながいですね。
- Translation: Your hair is long, isn't it?
- Lessons 44-47
- の: indicating the modification of the noun that follows it by the noun that precedes it
- に: indicating the time or occasion when an action or process occurs (with まえ)
- で: indicating boundaries of time (with あと)
- Example: じゅぎょうのまえにしゅくだいをします。
- Translation: I do homework before class.
- Example: おふろのあとでねます。
- Translation: I go to bed after taking a bath.
- Example: あのスカートの人はだれですか。
- Translation: Who is that person over there wearing a skirt?
- Example: じゅぎょうのまえにしゅくだいをします。
- を: indicating the direct object of a sentence
- Reminder: while it is written を, it is read as -o.
- Example: まきさんはめがねをしています。
- Translation: Maki is wearing glasses.
